The Nighttime Rite to Sobek-Ra-Wesir

A short contemplative nighttime rite for Sobek-Ra-Wesir, centred around Sobek-Ra as the Midnight Sun. Adapted from Richard Reidy's Nighttime Rite to Ra in Eternal Egypt. This is what I use in the evenings right before bed. I have a longer adapted version of the nighttime rite for when I want to recite the 75 forms of Ra, but I won't post that here, as it's basically the same rite, but with a much longer recitation at its heart, and I haven't adapted the 75 Forms of Ra in any way yet for Sobek-Ra. If that ever happens, I may end up posting my own version. But for now, this will do.

Items needed: Statue/image of Sobek; Incense, candles, matches

0. Offer henu before the closed shrine and say:

Adoring Sobek-Ra, king of the Netjeru.
Hail to You, who came into being on the First Occasion.
I have come to You that I may adore Your beauty,
for I know Your beneficence towards me.

1. Light your candles and say:

The candle has come to your Ka,
O Sobek-Ra, Lord of the Faiyum.
There has come one who proclaims night after day.
The second self of Sobek-Ra has come;
it has appeared gloriously in this sanctuary.
I have caused it to come.
I have brought it, even the Eye of Heru,
arisen upon your forehead, hale upon your brow.

2. Light incense and offer it to the shrine with the words:

The incense comes,
the perfume of the Netjer comes towards you.
The perfume of the Eye of Heru comes towards you,
the perfume of Nekhbet coming forth from Nekheb.
It washes over you. It adorns you.

3. Reciting the Hymn to Sobek-Ra:

Hail to you, master of endless repetition
Sobek-Ra-Wesir-Atum, great one of endless duration
You have come in peace
You have reached land and joined the arms of Manu
Your Majesty has received venerableness
Moored at your place of yesterday
The arms of your mother protect you
The rebel slays your enemies
The western bas tow you
On every path in the Holy Land
That you may illuminate the face of those in the underworld
And resurrect those who are prostrate

O Sobek-Ra in the West, placed into the earth,
He who gives light to those of the Duat,
O Sobek-Ra, He-in-His-Disk!
You lead me towards the roads of the West
on which pass the Bas of the West.
You lead me towards the roads of a mysterious nature.
You lead me toward the roads of the West
that I may pass the Caverns which are in the Silent Region.
You lead me towards the roads of the West,
so that I may adore that which is in the Hidden Chamber.
You lead me towards the roads of the West;
you elevate me to the caverns of the Watery Abyss.

Hail to you, Sobek-Ra! I am the Watery Abyss.
Hail to you, Sobek-Ra! I am yourself, and you are myself.
Hail to you, Sobek-Ra! Your Ba is the Ba of myself. My Ba is the Ba of yourself.

Hail to you, Sobek-Ra! May my resting place be in the Duat
when I traverse the Beautiful West.

Such as you are, such am I.

Your glory, O Sobek-Ra, is my glory.

I, NN*, adore those of the West, I exalt their Bas.
Your course, O Sobek-Ra, is truly my course.
Your passage is truly my passage.
O One-of-the-Disk, great of rays!
Homage to the Ba of the Wanderer!

4. Extinguish the candle with the words:

This is the Eye of Heru by which you have become great,
by which you live, and by which you have power, O Sobek-Ra.
This is the Eye of Heru which you consume and through which you enchant your body.
The Wedjat Eye now enters into the West, into Manu, but it shall return.
Truly, the Eye of Heru returns in peace!

5. Offer henu and say:

The distress that causes confusion has been driven away,
and all the gods are in harmony.
I have given Heru his Eye; I have placed the Wedjat Eye in the correct position.
I have given Set his Testicles, so that the two Lords are content through the work of my hands.
I know the sky, I know the earth; I know Heru, I know Set.
I am Djehuty, who reconciles the gods, who makes offerings in their correct form.
Who establishes Ma’at everywhere She is and desires to be.

6. Offer henu, and close the rite with the following words, then remove the foot to end the rite:

Djehuty has come.
He has filled the Eye of Heru;
He has restored the Testicles of Set.
No evil shall enter this temple.
Ptah has closed the door, Djehuty has set it fast.
The door is closed, the door is set fast with the bolt.
Djehuty has performed the rites in their correct form.
Ma’at is established in this place forever.

It is done in this way for millions of years.
