The Morning Rite to Sobek-Ra

A brief rite to awaken Sobek-Ra in the morning. Adapted from the shortform daily rite in Richard Reidy's Eternal Egypt. This is the current morning rite that I perform every morning. I will also just use the sunrise hymn here if I'm in a hurry and don't have time for the full rite.

Items needed: Statue/image of Sobek; statue/image of Ma’at; candle, incense, & matches

0. Approach the shrine, offer henu, and awaken Sobek-Ra with these words:

Awake in peace, O Sobek-Ra, awake in peace.
Awake in peace, O beautiful crocodile, awake in peace.
Awake in peace, O Lord who is reborn in the Lake, awake in peace.
Awake in peace, O beautiful soul of Wesir, awake in peace.

1. Open the doors of the shrine, if you have a naos, light candles, and incense, offer henu/prostrations, and approach the shrine.

2. Recite the sunrise hymn to Sobek-Ra

Hail to you, Sobek-Ra, at Your rising,
Sobek-Ra-Atum-Horakhty, I worship You,
Your beauty is in my eyes,
May Your radiance be upon my breast,
You proceed and set in the Mesketet boat,
Your heart dilated in the Mandjet boat,
You cross the sky in peace,
All your enemies having fallen,
The indefatigable stars praise You,
The indestructible stars worship You,
You set in the horizon of Manu,
Being complete as Sobek-Ra-Wesir, every day,
Living and enduring as my Lord,
Sobek-Ra, true of voice.

3. Awaken the statue of Sobek-Ra by touching His left shoulder and right wrist and say:

Djehuty has come to you.
Awake in peace when you hear his words.
I have come as the envoy of Atum.
My two arms are upon you like those of Heru.
My two hands are upon you like those of Djehuty.
My fingers are upon you like those of Anpu.
Homage be to you, I am Your living servant.

4. Take up your statue/image of Ma’at and offer it to Sobek-Ra with the words:

I am Djehuty, and I have come to You with Ma’at in my hands.
The distress that causes confusion has been driven away and all of the gods are in harmony.
Ma’at is everywhere You are, and Your hearts rejoice as She rises before You.
I have established Ma’at in the Two Lands.
I have given Heru his eye, I have placed the Wadjet eye in the correct position.
I have given Set his testicles, so that the two lords are content through the work of my hands.
I know the sky, I know the earth. I know Heru, I know Set.
I am Djehuty, who reconciles the gods.
Who makes offerings in their correct form.
Who establishes Ma’at everywhere She is and desires to be.

5. Continue to private prayer, meditation, or other offerings, as desired.

This is where I switch to my planetary shrine and recite the appropriate day’s planetary hymn and draw a daily tarot card.

6. Extinguish candles and close up the shrine. Say the following.

Djehuty has come.
He has filled the eye of Heru,
He has restored the testicles of Set.
No evil shall enter this temple.
Ptah has closed the door, Djehuty has set it fast.
The door is closed, the door is set fast with the bolt.
Djehuty has performed the rites in their correct form.
Ma’at is established in this place forever.

7. Remove the foot to end the rite. Record any experiences you might have had, and revert any offerings made during the rite.

It is done in this way for millions of years.
